It was a sad occasion for Brooks & Dunn fans last Thursday in Nashville as the duo performed their last concert together. But they at least tried to leave their fans laughing. Kix Brooks told the audience early in Thursday’s show: “This isn’t a funeral.” And they tried to make sure their fans didn’t spend a lot of time mourning their breakup. They even joked with the audience about the reasons for their split after 20 years together. Brooks said it was because of his crazy ideas for their concerts, like picking old songs. Ronnie Dunn said the reason for the breakup was that he was jealous of the cowboy hats Brooks got to wear all these years. Dunn joked that was why he got the word “cowboy” tattooed on his right forearm. Appropriately, the first song Brooks & Dunn ever sang together became their last: “Brand New Man.” As a duo, they have sold over 30 million albums and have won over 80 major industry awards.
